The Brief: To create an original artwork for a specific location, a piece that resonates directly with J&A whilst remaining true to my own experimental style.

This work explores the fragile boundaries between connection and separation, containment and permeability or vulnerability. Built through successive layers of staining and glazing, erasure and reworking, the painting invites a way of looking that is contingent rather than fixed; elements appear and disappear with changing light suggesting connections that are sensed before they are fully seen.

A gift for a newborn baby, a piece that can accompany her into adulthood. A painting which employs a technique that, like a new life , can be hard to control or predict. It is excitement and joy, so many unknowns and yet to be filled spaces. It is the past, the present and the future.
